DELINEAR MOTION
Kari Pieterse
I’m an illustrator, graphic designer, and animator based on Vancouver Island, creating visual stories for climate, environmental, and social-impact work. Illustration sits at the heart of my practice, often supported by motion, design, and texture to help ideas feel more human, approachable, and alive.
Much of my work involves taking dense research, big questions, or urgent stories and translating them into images people can actually connect with. Motion and design often support that work, helping illustrations move, breathe, and reach people across different spaces—from film and web to social          and live events.
I collaborate closely with Studio Saka as part of a creative collective. Together, we think carefully about how stories live in the world. That means building visual systems that aren’t rigid or purely functional, but flexible, expressive, and designed to hold many voices, so a story can unfold consistently across formats while still feeling alive, considered, and emotionally grounded.
At the core of everything I do is a belief that illustration and design can create space for understanding, helping people feel what’s at stake, see themselves in the story, and imagine better futures for the planet and for each other.
